Huawei P8

Smartphone description

Huawei P8 is a high-end P-series smartphone made by Chinese company Huawei. It debuted on the market in April 2015 and was a natural continuation of the Ascend series, although the "Ascend" name was dropped for this model. It is the direct successor to the Huawei Ascend P7, from which it inherits both aesthetics and design philosophy. Huawei P8 is distinguished by its sleek metal design and advanced features that put it among the premium smartphones.

Design and screen

The Huawei P8 is a device that, at first glance, stands out with a slim metal body that is only 6.4 mm thick, giving it a distinctly exclusive feel. The housing is made of high-quality aluminum, which not only increases the durability of the device, but also gives it a modern, minimalist look. Weighing only 144 grams, the P8 is comfortable to handle and does not feel heavy, making it an attractive choice for those who value lightness and aesthetics.

The 5.2-inch screen uses IPS-NEO LCD technology for vivid colors and perfect blacks. Full HD resolution (1080x1920 pixels) and a pixel density of 424 ppi make the image sharp and the details clearly visible. Huawei applied Gorilla Glass 3 protection to the screen, which increases its scratch resistance.

Performance and chipset

In terms of performance, the Huawei P8 is powered by a proprietary HiSilicon Kirin 930 processor. This chipset consists of two quad-core units: 2GHz Cortex-A53 and 1.5GHz Cortex-A53, which provides adequate processing power for both everyday use and more demanding tasks. Backed by 3GB of RAM and a Mali-T628 MP4 graphics chip, the P8 handles most applications, although some reviewers noted that its graphics performance lags behind the competition, especially for advanced mobile games.

The smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, with a proprietary Emotion UI 3.1 overlay that offers extensive customization options. Various versions of internal memory are available - 16 GB and 64 GB, with expandable memory via microSD card. In the Dual SIM model, the microSD card slot also serves as a place for a second SIM card.

Camera and photo features

The Huawei P8 features an advanced 13 MP camera with an RGBW sensor and dual LEDs. The f/2.0 aperture allows you to take high-quality photos, even in difficult lighting conditions. What's more, the camera offers unique photo modes such as Light Painting and Light Trails to create artistic lighting effects.

The front camera is 8 MP and can record 1080p video. Panorama selfie function makes it easy to take wide-angle group photos.

Connectivity and battery

The Huawei P8 offers a wide range of connectivity options, including support for LTE Cat. 6, which allows for download speeds of up to 300 Mbps. The device also supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and navigation using GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou. It also uses micro-USB with USB On-The-Go function, which allows you to connect external devices such as flash drives.

One of the main downsides of the P8 is its 2680 mAh battery, which is not replaceable. Reviews indicated that battery life could be longer, and the lack of fast charging or wireless charging features was considered a drawback.

Opinions and reviews

Huawei P8 received mixed reviews. On the one hand, users appreciated its sleek design, slim construction and solid workmanship. On the other hand, some reviewers, including GSMArena, criticized it for lacking top-quality materials compared to competing devices in the same price range. The smartphone was compared to the likes of the iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3, but in terms of graphics performance it lagged behind its top rivals.

Problems reported by users included losing Wi-Fi coverage and unsatisfactory battery performance. Nevertheless, the Huawei P8 was a step forward for the company and played an important role in strengthening its position in the global market.

Main disadvantages

Although the Huawei P8 has many advantages, such as an advanced camera and attractive design, the device also has some disadvantages. These include:

  • No 4K video recording,
  • No support for Wi-Fi ac,
  • Non-replaceable battery,
  • No fast charging or wireless charging,
  • Lack of water and dust resistance.

Despite these shortcomings, the Huawei P8 remains a device that has won praise for its solid performance, innovative photography features and attractive design.
